Eshin-in Temple, Uji

Founded in the Heian period by the priest Genshin (Eshin), Eshin-in is situated on the east bank of the Uji River in Kyoto Prefecture, opposite Byodo-in.

Genshin, author of Essentials of Pure Land Rebirth, is believed to have been the model for the fictional Bishop of Yokawa who helps Ukifune in The Tale of Genji.
