Enjuji Temple, Kyoto

The rather desolate Enjuji Temple stands at the corner of Rokujo Avenue and Kawaramachi. The temple has its origins in a Buddha hall built by Emperor Go-Shirakawa when he took vows in 1169. Also known as Kanabutsudera (Golden Buddha Temple), it had housed a golden Buddha that was lost when the temple burned down at the end of the Edo Period.
